Clean With Our Oral Health Therapist & Guided Biofilm Therapy with AirFlow
Clean With Our Oral Health Therapist & Guided Biofilm Therapy with AirFlow
Following your comprehensive oral examination, you will be referred to our Oral Health Therapist (OHT) who will perform a thorough examination of your gum health and complete your clean. This may be completed in one or multiple visits depending on your current gum health assessment.
What is an Oral Health Therapist?
An Oral Health Therapist can provide comprehensive care to ensure your oral health is well maintained. While providing routine cleans (removal of plaque and calculus) is a significant part of an OHT’s role, they also can help with treatments such as fluoride application, dental fissure sealants, dental scans, images and impressions.
Patient education is a vital part of maintaining your oral health and our OHT will share valuable tips to ensure that your oral health is always optimal.
What is Guided Biofilm Therapy with EMS AirFlow?
Once our OHT has completed your at home and oral health care education, your teeth will be cleaned.
Admire Dentistry is excited to announce the arrival of the EMS Airflow, delivers Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) protocol providing professional teeth cleaning without the pain and discomfort of a conventional professional clean. The GBT is a new and innovative, pain-free technology that is perfect for cleaning sensitive teeth, braces or implants. Combining air, fine powder and warm water to gently clean your teeth without physically touching them. It really is a dental spa for your mouth. From September 2021 all patients will be treated to GBT with EMS Airflow when you receive a clean with our OHT, Priya Holland.
This is just another advancement Admire Dentistry has committed to, ensuring our patients receive the high quality of treatment and care.
A comprehensive and periodic exam is always carried out by your Dentist. Your hygiene (clean) appointment will always be carried out by your Oral Health Therapist (OHT.) An OHT’s expertise in oral hygiene and preventive care. They also have the ability to provide a range of dental services that contribute to the overall oral health of patients is invaluable. OHTs enhance patient education, promote preventive practices, and enable collaborative and efficient dental care within the practice. Without them, we wouldn’t have a hygiene department, and our patients wouldn’t be fortunate enough to receive bespoke care in a safe environment. OHTs are trained to provide preventative care to patients of all ages, including children, adolescents, and adults. Think of it this way, your dentist studies for 5 years to learn all areas of general dentistry, your OHT studies for 3 years to learn solely about oral hygiene and preventive dentistry. This training ensures that patients of all ages can receive appropriate and tailored care within Admire Dentistry. Our OHTs also aim to empower you with the knowledge to make the best decisions about your oral health. It is for these reasons at Admire Dentistry, you will always see your OHT for your regular preventative and hygiene appointments. Our OHTs provide you with the best oral hygiene maintenance so that our dentists can provide you with specialised care in all other areas.
At Admire Dentistry, we stay up to date with the latest peer-reviewed research and the latest technology. To date, there is nothing more thorough or effective than guided biofilm therapy. We will always arm our patients with the knowledge to make an informed decision. At the end of the day, it is your dental appointment. If you prefer the old “scale, polish, fluoride” treatment, we can provide this for you.

A visit to your oral health therapist (OHT) is completed at the same time as your routine examination appointment every 6 months. At Admire Dentistry, your 6-month routine exam & hygiene appointment will be booked with your OHT, and your dentist will complete your exam during this appointment. In some cases, your oral health and hygiene might require more attention; therefore, more regular appointments with your oral health therapist might be needed. Depending on your needs, this could be 3-month or 4-month intervals. At these additional appointments, you will not see your dentist unless necessary.
There is no additional cost for receiving guided biofilm therapy vs. the “old style” clean. At Admire Dentistry, we accept all health funds equally; they will cover part of the treatment, and you simply pay the gap. We do have payment plan options, too, if required. You don’t need to have private health extras to see us, either. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call our friendly front office staff for more information or send us an email.
