Celebrating 1 Year of Admire Dentistry!

Can you believe it!? Admire Dentistry turns 1 this month and we’re quickly outgrowing our baby shoes. Isn’t it incredible how time flies when you’re having fun? The past year has been nothing short of amazing, so here’s a peek into what the last twelve months had in store for our family practice in Arana Hills.

And what a journey it has been! A year full of growth, big and small successes and huge smiles. 2020 might have been a year of ups and downs, but thanks to the support of the local community and a passionate team, Admire Dentistry has been able to create a trusting and comfortable environment in which we care for our patients’ smiles.

Opening a Business During COVID? Challenge Accepted!

Admire started its business at the peak of the pandemic in Australia, on May 11th 2020. “We were supposed to open in early April, but then COVID struck and we had to postpone the opening date”, Dr Alex Davies, principle dentist and clinic owner explains. She is glad her plan still came to fruition when restrictions were lifted sooner than expected. Today, she thanks those around her for their undying confidence and support during this time.

Opening a practice hadn’t always been a priority for her. Whilst Dr Alex wanted to be a dentist for as long as she can remember, her focus had primarily been on her patient’s needs and providing them with a holistic approach to dental health. Be it through simple teeth whitening, more complex cosmetic procedures or emergency, general, preventative, or pediatric dental care.

In a recent interview with the BOQ magazine “Best Practice”, Dr Alex explained: “If you had asked me […] last year if I was ever going to open my own practice, I would have said, ‘No, I’m very happy living my life this way and this is all I want to do.”

Dr Alex had started her career as a dental assistant under the guidance of Dr Ed Tucker at his practice in Samford, where she was born and raised. She stayed at his clinic whilst completing her degree in dentistry at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. After graduating in 2014, Dr Alex was back at Dr Tucker’s side only a few days later. It’s where she perfected her skills in a range of dental procedures and developed her patient-focused outlook on the profession.

So when the day came that her mentor Dr Tucker announced that he would retire, her perspective started to shift. She decided to “take this opportunity and go out and do it [herself]”. Encouraged by Dr Tucker and his team, she found a place for sale in Arana Hills, outside from Samford, but still close to home.

“And from there it has just grown and grown. I am so grateful to so many of my past patients because they have been so supportive. We are slowly gaining traction in the new community and are looking forward to working on some new projects that will help us increase our involvement. I’m so excited for the future.”

Fostering a Patient-First Culture

So much has been accomplished at Admire over the last year. And of course, none of it could have happened without a growing number of highly qualified team members motivated to help the Arana Hills community to be healthier and happier. Focussed on the best interest of our patients, we genuinely enjoy getting to know and relating to our patients on a personal level.

Dr Alex intentionally created a team of like-minded professionals that would always put their patient’s comfort first: “What I really like about [Dr Tucker’s] style of practising is that he is very patient-focused. He strives to make sure patients have the highest quality experience and to make sure they are comfortable”. She’s clearly succeeded in making sure patients feel at ease the moment they walk through the doors and are welcomed by a warm smile.

Over the past year, we’ve built a strong team of capable and compassionate professionals:

• In May 2020, Practice and Reception Manager Nicole joined Dr Alex.
• A month later, Kylie stepped in as Practice Coordinator.
• In September 2020, Dental Assistant Tara and dentist Dr Emma Broughton joined the team.
• In October, Dental Assistants Cherie and Giselle came on board.
• In March 2021, our very own Oral Health Therapist Priya took over the Admire Dentistry Hygiene Department.
• And most recently, we had our Dental Assistant Alanna join us.

The Admire Difference

Within twelve months, Admire Dentistry has become a local success story, both for Dr Alex, the Admire team and many repeating patients – their families included. Based on a professional and transparent treatment approach, we are able to treat patients to the highest quality of care – and will continue to do so for many more years.

Knowing how common dental anxiety is, we’ve made it our mission to make dental treatments less nerve-wracking for both children and adults. Admire specialises in dealing with dental anxiety and creating comfortable and effortless experiences for everyone. Using new pain-free technology whenever possible, we hope to put even the most nervous of patients at ease.

Whilst we obviously continue to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines for dental practices, we do our best to create a relaxed and comfortable environment that gives off less of a clinical feeling. We disinfect all surfaces every morning and night and wipe them down after every patient. This ensures a safe environment for our patients and team, however we understand the sterile smell that results can cause anxiety for some patients. To alleviate this we’ve added more plants throughout the clinic and are using beautiful Glass House diffusers to make the practice smell more inviting.

We’ve Added New Services

Admire Dentistry is increasingly focusing on building an Oral Hygiene Department which will allow us to take a comprehensive care approach to meet our patients’ ever-evolving needs. We now have an Oral Health Therapist on board, Priya Holland. You might have met her already!

Priya specialises in dental hygiene, oral health care, and preventative treatments. With Priya on our side, Admire Dentistry will continue to maintain the very best standard in oral hygiene and dental care for our patients.
