Our Innovations in Dentistry: Pain-Free Technology

Causes of Tooth Decay and How to Prevent it

Many people of all ages have a fear of going to the dentist. Sometimes it’s fear of the unknown, but most commonly, it’s because people equate the dentist chair with a painful experience. This fear is mostly unfounded, as these days, modern dentistry is very much pain-free for the most part. A pain-free dental experience is something Admire Dentistry guarantees for our clients.

Pain-free dentistry in Brisbane is achieved in a number of ways, and it’s about doing everything possible during every step of the procedure to ensure patients are relaxed and comfortable from start to finish.

Let’s take a closer look at pain-free dental procedures and technology, what pain-free dentistry is, why it’s important, how it’s achieved, and the benefits of booking your next appointment with our clinic.

Reasons For Pain-Free Dentistry

The most important reason for pain-free dentistry in Brisbane is to alleviate the fear mentioned earlier. Dental anxiety and dental phobia (or dentophobia) is a very real phenomenon and can affect anyone at any time, no matter what their age or previous experiences may be. Nobody likes to experience pain of any kind, and if pain-free dental care can be guaranteed as much as possible, the more likely people are going to feel comfortable going to the dentist for a check-up or a specific procedure.

Dental anxiety can build up from a fear of uncertainty or hearing about other peoples’ bad experiences with a dentist in the past. At the end of the day, this anxiety also conjures up thoughts of a painful encounter with the dentist, even if that fear is unfounded.

Practising and promoting pain-free dental is vital. We all require professional oral care regularly and no one should feel so afraid of going to the dentist that they refrain from booking an appointment.

Pain-Free Options

With pain-free dental being the aim to alleviate your fear of going to the dentist, let’s now take a look at some of the latest pain-free technology that we use every day at Admire Dentistry in Arana Hills. The following equipment and techniques will make your visit to our clinic pain-free, no matter what the procedure.

Smile Design

See what your brand new smile will look like without any invasive procedures. All we need to do is take a photo of your current smile at your next appointment using Smile Design technology. A realistic simulation of your gorgeous new smile will be generated with this unique software. You’ll then be emailed a link where you can compare before and after shots of your smile.

Low-Dose X-rays

Causes of Tooth Decay and How to Prevent it

As a dental clinic in Arana Hills that focuses on pain-free dentistry on every level, we believe that low-dose X-rays are the way to go. Rather than the traditional film X-ray, which can certainly be uncomfortable, low-dose technology is achieved by using digital X-rays. This type of X-ray is painless, safer, and more environmentally friendly. What’s most important is that 90% less radiation is produced by a digital X-ray as compared to a film X-ray.

The Wand

Possibly the number one fear people have when visiting the dentist is receiving a needle to numb the teeth and gums before undergoing a procedure. After all, needles can be painful, despite an anaesthetic being necessary for a comfortable experience. The Wand is a fantastic alternative to the dreaded needle and has been specially designed for children and people with dentist needle phobias. The traditional syringe method may cause pain when the anaesthetic is injected rapidly. With The Wand, anaesthetic is administered much more slowly. It’s also very accurate and can be used to numb just a single tooth if required.

The Intra-Oral Camera

In order for patients to feel more at ease and gain a greater understanding of a particular procedure, your dentist will use an intra-oral camera to produce a picture of the affected tooth or teeth. When the camera is in play, a high-resolution image is sent directly to the computer screen, so both the patient and the dentist have a clear picture of everything. This makes it very easy for your dentist to explain (and for the patient to comprehend) what the issue is and how the solution is going to correct it. Once again, zero pain is experienced with an intra-oral camera.

3Shape Digital Scanning Technology

Another technology innovation that has led to pain-free dental care is 3Shape Digital Scanning Technology. This modern technology is used to make accurate moulds of your teeth, eradicating the need to fill a client’s mouth with impression material as was done in the past. Instead, digital scanning is used to map the structure of the teeth so a mould can be created. Previous methods were uncomfortable at best and painful at worst.

OrthoPantomoGram (OPG)

People with a small mouth or a very sensitive gag reflex will benefit from the use of an OPG (OrthoPantomoGram). What is an OPG, exactly? It’s a machine that captures a big X-ray, one that produces an overall image of the entire mouth. Best of all, this X-ray is achieved externally, so there’s no need for your dentist to poke around inside your mouth. An X-ray that provides a clear picture of all your teeth and gums is a huge help for your dentist, and with OPG technology, obtaining this X-ray is comfortable and painless for the patient.

Nitrous Oxide

An alternative to having an anaesthetic administered by a syringe or The Wand is to opt for nitrous oxide instead, also known as laughing gas or happy gas. This gas is inhaled through a mask and calms the nerves, as well as providing a pain-free dental experience. Once the mask is removed, the effects of the happy gas quickly wear off, leaving no lingering aftereffects.

Benefits of Pain-Free Dentistry

If you suffer from dental anxiety and a fear of going to the dentist, then understanding pain-free dentistry in Brisbane and how it’s achieved will help you conquer your fear of the dentist. This is likely the greatest benefit of painless dentistry.

When you know that every step of the procedure is going to be comfortable, you can book your next appointment feeling confident, calm, and relaxed. While it might still be a stretch to suggest that you will look forward to going to the dentist, any anxiety you may have previously experienced in the lead-up will vanish when you know a pain-free dental experience awaits you at your next appointment.

Once fear and trepidation melt away, this will lead to you receiving better oral care, as you’ll be more inclined to visit your dentist regularly rather than putting off making an appointment until it’s absolutely necessary.

It’s vital for everyone to stay on top of their oral health. The more often you see a dentist, you’re going to have fewer issues with your teeth, gums, and overall health.
